We're a Dog Friendly B&B
Well-behaved and house-trained dogs are very welcome to stay at our dog-friendly B&B in the ground floor room, Redlake. This room has its own entrance & lobby area making it ideal for going out on early morning or late evening walks.
We own a friendly Collie / Labrador cross, called Molly (born in March 2018). We don't charge extra for guest dogs, but Molly asks that your dog please remember:
-
be quiet when your two-legged friends have their breakfast (we are not normally allowed in the dining room) as there may be others who want a lie-in
- dogs are not allowed alone in the bedroom except when owners have their breakfast
-
wipe your feet when you come into the lobby (I don’t really know why they have a carpet in the bedroom!) - if you need a hose down the hosepipe is near your outside door and a towel is provided
-
if you are inclined to find your supper or breakfast doesn’t stay in the bowl, please eat in the lobby or use the boot tray
-
please keep paws off the white cotton bed linen
-
use the little dog poop bags provided for your packages and get someone to put them in the bin just along the road by the entrance to the village hall car park (this bin gets emptied weekly, so it's better in there)
-
dogs are more than welcome to stretch their legs in the garden. There is livestock fencing around most of the garden to prevent you rushing out onto the road but take great care and be good if you are of a mind to escape without your human with you! The road is very quiet but there are sheep in the fields and they like to be left alone
-
in the event of accidentally breaking/damaging something through holiday exuberance please either replace it or let my folks know so they can sort out a replacement
-
if you have a toilet accident and your people are unable to clean up, let my people know so that it can be cleaned up appropriately. (I know us dogs do sometimes get excited when we go to new places).
Dog-Friendly Pubs in the Area
There are several dog-friendly pubs close to us. The Crown Inn at Clunton, The White Horse in Clun, The Lion at Leintwardine and The Riverside at Aymestry all allow dogs, as does The Banc in Knighton. (please check when you book as some only allow us in certain areas). In Ludlow, dogs are allowed in some pubs including the Ludlow Brewery Bar, The Blue Boar in Mill Street and Church Inn at the Buttercross.
The Bridges at Ratlinghope near the Long Mynd is one of our favourite pubs and welcomes dogs.
Dog Walks
There are plenty of places to walk dogs in the area including walks in our Walks From The Door leaflet, although these will require dogs to be kept on a lead as they go through farmland.
We have two Forestry Commission areas close to us, each about five minutes drive away. Bucknell Woods and Black Hill both have parking and many paths where dogs can run off lead. Black Hill is one of Molly's favourite places to go and offers far reaching spectacular views of the Shropshire countryside.
Slightly further afield Croft Castle is a National Trust property which has a selection of well signposted walks through parklands and woodlands. The National Trust also manage The Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley near Church Stretton which are ideal dog walking areas.
